Dr. Louis "Doc" Anthony Hall, the son of Edwin and Lelia (Flynn) Hall, was born September 29, 1927 at Mercy Hospital in Denver, CO. He died January 28, 2016 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, IA at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 30 days.
Louis attended school at Holy Family where he lettered in nine sports, was student body president, and placed first in the Colorado State High School Speech Meet. He attended St. Thomas Seminary for a year before enrolling in Regis College. While at Regis College, he played baseball, was student body president and won the biology award his senior year. He graduated cum laude with a combined BA-BS degree. He attended medical school at Marquette University and then Colorado University before graduating with an M.D. degree in 1953. He served his internship at USNH in Oakland, CA and received his license from the Colorado State Medical Board in 1954. Louis went on to serve as a surgeon with the First Marine Division during the Korean War. He returned to Oceanside, CA where he served as Chief of Pediatrics, Chief of ENT, and was a USN reserve until 1963. Louis moved back to Denver in 1956, where he practiced family medicine until his retirement in 1985. Louis continued to be active in his profession, working at a geriatric medical clinic until 1993.
Louis served on many committees and boards, including: the Colorado Health Standards Committee, president of the Colorado Catholic Physicians Guild, secretary/treasurer of the National Federation of Catholic Physicians, the Regis College Alumni Association, chairman of the Medical Evaluation Board, and Corporate Medical Director for Sisters of Mercy. Louis enjoyed geology, mineralogy, entomology, hunting, fishing, carpentry, and golfing. He had served as the president of the NVRA Country Club from 1999 until 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sandra Bay Hall; his grandson Scott Kornfield; his sons-in-law, Dusty Carson and Mark Gustafson; his brothers Edwin and George Hall; and his sister Catherine.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Michael A. Hall and wife Martha of Englewood, CO, Pamela M. Carson of Griswold, IA, Patrick J. Hall and wife Pam of Griswold, IA; John F. Hall of Elliott, IA, David A. Hall and wife Debby of Aurora, CO, Thomas C. Hall and wife Kara of Livermore, CO, Stephen G. Hall and wife Karen of Austin, TX, Peggy Gustafson of Denver, CO, Elizabeth Hartman and husband David of Breckenridge, CO, and Theresa Jones and husband Mark of Milwaukie, OR; thirty-seven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; the mother of his children Jeanette Hall of Denver, CO; and his special friend Ellie Pelzer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, February 5, 2015 from 8:30 AM until the time of the funeral mass. Open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home on Thursday. The family will not be present at any specific time. Interment will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery south of Griswold. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church or Creighton Retreat Center. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
