Loretta Cable, 80, of Griswold died Monday afternoon, August 29, 2011 at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln, NE.
Loretta Mae Brouse was born on April 20, 1931, the daughter of Arthur LeRoy and Pearl Ivis (Stover) Brouse at Griswold. She attended Griswold schools, graduating in 1949 and on June 19, 1949, she married Dean Curtis Cable at the Griswold United Methodist Church. In 1950 and 1951 she worked for Iowa Power. From 1951-1953, Dean served in the Army at Ft. Lee, VA and during that time, Loretta worked Civil Service. Following his discharge, they lived at Silver Spring, MD and while Dean went to school at the National Institute of Drycleaning - she worked in the Alumni Office. They moved to Council Bluffs and Omaha and Loretta worked for Mutual of Omaha. In August of 1955, they moved to Chattanooga, TN, and lived there until 1963 and during that time Loretta was secretary of St. John's Methodist Church. When they returned to Griswold, she and Dean operated the Griswold Cleaners and Bon-Ton Cleaners in Red Oak. In 1976 she then went back to Iowa Power (now Mid-America Energy) and retired from there in December of 1992. Loretta moved to the Griswold Assisted Living four years ago and was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and the Griswold American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her sons: Michael and wife Terri of Danville, CA, Alan and wife Judy of Lincoln, NE and Steven and wife Joan of Waunakee, WI; her six grandchildren; Megan and Allison of Danville, CA, Teresa of Orlando, FL, Laura of Lincoln, and Brett and wife Julie and Jason - both of Waunakee as well as her sister Phyllis and husband George Rush of Griswold.
Preceding Loretta in death were her parents in 1977, her husband of nearly 50 years, Dean on January 14, 1999, her brother Lloyd Brouse in 2009 and two nephews John (in 1974) & Dan (in 2009) Rush.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Griswold Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 Friday evening.
