LOREN FRANKLIN KEARNEY
Loren Franklin Kearney, the son of Frank William and Mona Mae (Bates) Kearney, was born October 5, 1926 at Oakland, Iowa and died June 24, 2010 at his home in Oakland, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 19 days.
Loren attended country school and then graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1945. He helped on the family farm before eventually taking over the family operation. On October 25, 1947, Loren was united in marriage to Clara Mae Bailey at the Oakland Christian Church Parsonage. He continued to farm and in 1983 he and Clara Mae moved in to Oakland. Loren continued to live at home until the time of his death.
Loren was a member of the Oakland Christian Church for 61 years. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, flying radio controlled airplanes, woodworking, and dogs.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Earl, Paul and Roy.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara Mae of Oakland; his children Ellen Louise Terry of Des Moines, IA, Eileen Teresa Beever and husband Bob of Quincy, IL, and Donald Douglas Kearney and wife Rita of Council Bluffs, IA; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his brothers Mervin Kearney and wife Darlene of Oakland, IA, and Blaine Kearney and wife Mary of Audubon, IA ; and his sister Elsie Ehlert and husband Harlan of Cedar Falls, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Interment will be held at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland with the family present at the funeral home on Monday from 6-7:30 PM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
