Lois Lorraine Rattenborg
Lois Lorraine Rattenborg, the daughter of Claus and Wilma Danker, was born in Council Bluffs, IA on September 2, 1937 and died at her home West of Oakland, IA on September 18, 2011 at the age of 74 years.
Lois was fourth of seven children. She grew up on the family farm seven miles west of Oakland. She attended grade school at country school and then graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1955. She enjoyed a successful basketball career during high school, and was named all state as a guard. She loved sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, ISU and Hawkeye fan.
She was united in marriage to Keith Rattenborg on January 5, 1958. They made their home in Oakland, where they raised three children: Jolaine Krystel, Jolynn Lanae and Chris Andrew.
Lois loved her work and community and gained great joy from seeing her customers that she also considered to be her friends. She loved children and was known as Grandma Lois to many. She was also referred to as "mom" by many who had lost their own mother. These were roles she was more than happy to take on. She started a wall of pictures, which is somewhat now infamous where pictures of babies, families, seniors and soldiers are displayed. Lois and Keith had been married 53 years last January 5th. They had been active in the community where they had received awards for their hard work. Lois took much pride in her work and contributing to her community and her relationships she had with many here. Mostly, she loved people and they loved her back.
Her sister Donna Rae Schueman prededed her in death.
Lois is survived by her husband, W. Keith Rattenborg; her children Jolaine Mills and Michael Jacobsen, Jolynn Kellogg, and Chris Rattenborg and his wife, Susan; her grandchildren in order of their birth, Eddie Kellogg, Tyler Kellogg, Steven Kellogg, Joshua Mills, Nic Kellogg, Christan Jacobsen and her only granddaughter and name sake, Gia Lorraine Jacobsen; four sisters: Janice Knott, Joann Lockwood, Leila Zimmerman & Sandra Madron; and one brother Gerald Danker. Lois is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be held at the Oakland United Methodist Church on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:30 PM. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
