Lloyd Edwin Bergstrom's Obituary
Lloyd Edwin Bergstrom was born October 26, 1928 to Gus and Jessie Inman Bergstrom. He died June 11, 2015 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, IA at the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 16 days. He lived his entire life in the Griswold area except the two years he was serving his country. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1946. He farmed several years and in 1953 was married to Lucille Bailey. To this union four children were born: Kent, Kathlynn, Joni, and Lynae.
Lloyd became a rural mail carrier in Griswold in 1960, and was later transferred to Red Oak. He retired in 1989. He then did seasonal work for Steinbeck & Sons and Jim Johnston. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He and Lucille have visited all 50 states and have traveled to Europe several times. They have spent the last 22 winters in Texas.
Lloyd had many hobbies and loved to construct things with metal, wood, and glass. He enjoyed making toys for grandkids, carving, tatting, and playing bridge. He also enjoyed fishing with his buddies Carol and Jay.
Lloyd was a lifetime member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, a 60 year Legion member and a 60 year Lions Club member, holding offices in all three. He was a charter member of the Griswold Golf Club and a charter board member of Dollars for Scholars.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Lucille of Griswold, IA ; his children: Kent Bergstrom (Liz) of Ames, IA, Kathlynn Blasing (Paul) of Topeka, KS, Joni Farwell (Mike) of Des Moines, IA, and Lynae Foley (Don) of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his sister Norma Landon (Don); his sister-in-law, Jeanette Bergstrom; and special neighbors, Chuck and Cindy Miller.
Several years ago, Lloyd made a decision to donate his body to science so that he might help others, which has been his lifelong motto.
A memorial service for Lloyd will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Griswold United Methodist Church in Griswold. Visitation with the family will take place at the Church on Saturday morning starting at 9:30 AM until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Lloyd's name.
