Lilly Marie Palmer, the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Schmielau) Taylor, was born June 25, 1925 at Oakland, Iowa and died April 12, 2015 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 18 days.
Lilly attended country school and then graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1944. On July 16, 1948 she was united in marriage to Wayne Palmer. She attended Barnes Beauty College and graduated in 1962. Upon her graduation, she opened her own beauty shop in her home. They lived in Oakland where Lilly continued to operate her own beauty salon. Wayne died on February 16, 1990. After Lilly's retirement, she continued to work with several local beauticians.
Lilly was a member of the Oakland Congregational Church – UCC, where she had been active in the women's fellowship. She had been the V.F.W. Auxiliary President and a past president of the Oakland Senior Center. She was a member of the Jolly 12 Hobby Club, and loved playing cribbage and bridge.
Lilly is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her sister Violet Hitt.
She is survived by her children Rodney Palmer and wife Vicki of Oakland and Barry Palmer and wife Darla of Council Bluffs; her grandchildren: Michael Palmer and wife Marcy, Michelle Kindred and husband Mark, Chad Palmer and wife Paula, Brandy Achenbach and husband Chad, and Sarah McDonald; her great grandchildren: Hunter and Jadyn Achenbach, Mekara and Macy Kindred, Bryce, Jase and Lilly Palmer, and Evan McDonald; and her sisters Rose Allen, Fern Kelsey, and Daisy Wiemen. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
