Howard Guyer
November 7, 1947 – March 21, 2018
Leslie Howard "Les" Guyer, the son of Paul William and Ida Ethelyn (Simmonds) Guyer, was born at home in Hancock on November 7, 1947. He died at his home in Hancock on March 21, 2018, at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 14 days.
Les attended school at Hancock until the sixth grade. He graduated from AvoHa High School in Avoca with the class of 1965. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he served overseas during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Hancock and worked for Schueman Transfer as a diesel mechanic. In February of 1972, he was united in marriage to Carline Horst in Hancock, IA. In November of 1972, he began working in the family business at Guyer Machine Shop. He lived and worked in Hancock until the time of his death.
Les was an avid hunter. He loved fishing for Walleye, trapping, collecting and shooting guns, and building and flying model airplanes. Les always enjoyed working and visiting with the people that he served.
Les is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Gary and Bill; and his great nephew Paul.
He is survived by his wife Carline of Hancock, IA; his children: Corrine Sindt of Atlantic, IA, Julie Walter (Brian Travis) of Council Bluffs, IA, Rhonda Cash (Mike) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Jennifer Holtz (Matt Bowen) of Carson, IA, Vince Guyer (Andi) of Hancock, IA, and Bob Guyer (Jill) of East Granby, CT; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his brother Steve Guyer and wife Karen of Hancock, IA; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Guyer of Hancock. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Oakland United Methodist Church from 2- 5 PM. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 1:00 PM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
