Obituary

Leonore Mauk, 102, died Sunday afternoon, August 28, 2011 at Montclair Manor in Montclair, CA, where she had been a resident since 1995.

Leonore Nellie Putnam was born at Griswold, IA, on May 8, 1909, the daughter of Claude Sexton and Iva May (Pierson) Putnam. She graduated from Griswold High School in 1928 and on December 19, 1928 was married to Everett Elton Mauk in Atlantic, IA. They lived at Griswold and Everett worked with Mauk Transfer until moving to Arizona in 1958. They moved to California in 1962, returned to Arizona in 1965 and retired to Apache Junction, AZ in 1971. Following Everett's death on March 5, 1987, Leonore lived at Apache Junction until 1992 when she moved to Kingman, AZ, to be near her son Dale. In 1993, she moved to California to be near her daughter Diana. While living in Griswold, Leonore was a member of and active in the Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter Diana Mauk of Chino Hills, CA, her sons Dale Mauk of Kingman, AZ and Bill Mauk of Galt, CA, her 8 grandchildren and her several great and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Leon Putnam and his wife Dorothy of Griswold as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Leonore in death were her parents, her husband of 58 years, her grandson Rick Mauk and her sisters Elva Railsback and Lela Syvertsen.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Griswold Cemetery west of town. There will be no visitation and friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
