Larry Olsen, son of Ralph and Bernice (Gress) Olsen was born in Hancock Iowa on Nov. 21, 1940. Larry attended Hancock school and graduated in 1959. He was a carpenter for fertilizer plant and farm hand.  On July 17, 1965 he married Gloria (Wolf) Olsen and they resided in Hancock.  Larry was a maintainer operator for Pottawattamie County for over 30 years until failing health caused him to move to Oakland Manor in 2000, joining Gloria there.

Larry loved to square dance with the Botna Benders, play cribbage, hunt, fish, spend time with his children, and vacation at the family cabin in Lake Okoboji. Larry was on the city council, Hancock Volunteer Fire Department, member of the United Methodist Church, and was town sheriff for many years. Larry and Gloria were both very involved with the baseball and softball teams,

He is Preceded in death by his wife Gloria, daughter Darcey, son Jason, his parents and mother and father in law.

He is survived by his daughters Vicki Austin of Livermore, Maine, and Cindy Wendt of Atlantic Iowa: his Brother Gene Olsen of Hancock,  IA; his sister Leta Mae Hoagland of Omaha, NE; his sisters-in-law Nancy Wolf Rivers and Ethel Smith and her husband Don Smith; his brother-in-law Ron Wolf;  grandaughters Darci Ackerman, Shawna, Katie and Ashley Austin;  great grandson Evan Burnell, his great-grandaughter Tori Jade Austin; also many nieces nephew and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
