Obituary

Kenneth "Kenny" R. Wogomon was born on August 11, 1962, in Elkhart, Indiana to Harold and Jean (Staub) Wogomon. Kenny passed on April 25, 2024, in Carson, California, at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Kenny's family remained in Elkhart until he was ten years old, at which time, they relocated to Santa Rosa, California. Kenny spent his youth perusing outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and swimming and enjoyed anything that went on outside. At age 14 Kenny's family returned to Indiana where he finished high school, Graduating from Elkhart Memorial. He joined the United States Army on a delayed entry program between his Junior and Senior year and shipped off to basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama the day after his 18th birthday. While at Fort McClellan he attended both Basic Training and Advanced Training for the Military Police Corps. After completion of his training, Kenny was assigned to the MP unit at Fort Shafter in Hawaii. While serving in Hawaii, Kenny was blessed with two children Adam and Crystal from his first marriage.

After leaving active duty he returned to Elkhart and pursued a career as a professional painter alongside his father.  He also joined the area Army National Guard unit as an Infantry Scout, where he attained the Rank of Sargent and became a Squad Leader. He continued his career in painting, at one point operating his own business.  In 1991 he attended 8 weeks of vocational training as a Freight Relocation Specialist (truck driver) at Amtec Patriot Truck Driving Academy in Monroe, Ohio. Upon completion of his training Kenny started driving for Werner Enterprises in Omaha, Nebraska, where he became a driver trainer.

It was at Werner where he met Heather Van Voorst, who also worked for Werner in the Driver Payroll Department. Somehow, he convinced her to go out with him and after a brief courtship the two were married on May 17, 1997. Kenny and Heather, along with Crystal and Adam made a home in Treynor. They have been blessed with two granddaughters and four grandsons, whom they love spending time with and attending their school events.

In November 2006, Kenny and Heather began Team Driving over the road for Werner. In March of 2010, they decided to step out on their own, bought a truck and became Owner Operators.

Kenny was active in Coral Lodge #335 A.F. & A.M. in Carson, Omaha Valley Scottish Rite, Amber Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Grand Marshal in 2017 and Worthy Grand Patron of Iowa 2019 to 2021. He was currently serving on the Board of Grand Trustees.  When not tinkering in the garage he enjoyed watching movies and eating popcorn, he also enjoyed writing poetry or breaking out in song. Kenny and Heather had traveled many miles together in the truck, and he enjoyed going on cruises with friends and the beach.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Millie James and Jeannie Edwards; his father-in-law Dean Miller; his brothers-in-law: David James, Steve Edwards, Robin Mohr; and nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Heather; his children: Adam and two children Abbigayle and Parker, and Crystal (Harold) Wotton and four children: Gavin, Brody, Calin, and Fayth; his sister Patti Wogomon (Bruce Allman); his sisters-in-law: April Mohr, Amber (Kenneth) Tiarks and Lindsey (Joe) Asawa.
