Karen G. Smith, 68, of Atlantic, IA, died at her home, the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center on Sunday, July 17, 2011.

Karen Grace Smith was born at Griswold, IA on March 6, 1943, the daughter of Edward Carlton and Elva Adele (Reed) Smith. Karen was born severely handicapped and was unable to attend school or work during her lifetime. She was able to live at home until 1970 when she entered Neighbors Nursing Home at Griswold and in 1973 moved to the Atlantic Care Center, what is now Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center. Throughout her life, she has been cared for by her loving family.

Survivors include her four brothers Donald (Ethel) Smith, Ramon (Jean) Smith, Edward (Jolene) Smith all of Atlantic and Gordon (Carol) Smith of Lawrenceburg, TN: her two sisters Helen (Howard) Gregersen of Atlantic and Doris (Bill) Webster of Norwalk, IA as well as several nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers George, Cecil and Basil Smith, her nephew Ronnie Smith and one grandnephew.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery northwest of town. Open visitation will be on Tuesday and the family will be present Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 AM for visitation.
