Judith Ann Scheffler, the daughter of Wayne Cecil and Maxine Louise (Rank) Brandes, was born January 20, 1950 in Council Bluffs, IA. She died April 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA, at the age of 67 years, 3 months, and 1 day.
Judy was baptized and confirmed at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. She attended school at Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1968. She attended college at Iowa State University, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics Education in 1972. On June 24, 1972, she was united in marriage to James Edward Scheffler at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Three children were born to this union: Tom, Doug, and Mike. Judy taught at Oakland High School, Carson High School, and Avoca High School before retiring in 2012.
Judy was a lifelong member of the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her bible study group, going to dinner with the Avoca retired teachers, reading, taking pictures, and traveling to tractor pulls with Jim. Judy especially loved spending time with her family, and cherished the Sunday dinners that were held with her family after church.
Judy is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Faith Ann Scheffler; and her father.
She is survived by her husband Jim of Hancock IA; her sons: Tom Scheffler and wife Hilary of Hancock, IA, Doug Scheffler and wife Kayce of McKinney, TX, and Mike Scheffler and wife Samantha of Hancock, IA; her grandchildren: Roman, Katie, Guy, Max, Callie, Duke, Jack, Stella, and Lily; her mother Maxine Brandes of Walnut, IA; her brother Russell Brandes and wife Phyllis; her sister Joyce Hickerson and husband Dennis: her sisters-in-law, Jane Mohr and husband Gary, and Lisa Paulsen and husband Nolan; and her brother-in-law, Mark Scheffler and wife Toni. Judy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday evening from 5-7:30 PM at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
