Marie Boruff

Judith "Judie" Marie Boruff, the daughter of John and Gladys (Mass) Eckert, was born April 29, 1947, in Council Bluffs, IA. Judie died October 9, 2025, at her home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 10 days after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Judie attended school in Carson, graduating from Carson Macedonia High School in 1965. She was active in music and was a talented majorette and baton twirler leading the band. She married Dennis (Dean) Pilling in 1965, and together they had three children: Rocky, Carla and Kelly. Judie began her career as a florist, opening the Country Bouquet Flower Shop, which eventually became Oakland Florist. She later married Michael (Mick) Boruff on September 13, 2003, and they made their home in Oakland. In her retirement years, Judy worked as a paraeducator at Riverside School and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Mick enjoyed spending time at their home in Donna, Texas during the Winter months.
Judie was a member of the Carson Presbyterian Church and had been involved with the Order of Eastern Star. She also earned a black belt in Isshinryu Karate. She was a gifted singer and sang for many weddings, funerals, Grist Mill productions and other events including the Carson Rodeo. She loved to cook and made many meals for others who were in need. She enjoyed playing cards and loved to entertain her family and special "happy hour" friends in her home. She had many other hobbies including bowling, golfing, line dancing and she loved to socialize.
Preceded in death by her mother Gladys Mass Eckert, her father Leonard Slusher, her step-father John Eckert, sister Susie Pilling and husband Larry; step-brothers Rick and Gary Eckert; brothers-in-law Mike Sowers, Jim Fender, and Chris Boruff.
Judie is survived by her husband Michael "Mick" Boruff of Oakland, IA; children: Rocky Pilling and wife Shannon of Oakland, IA, Carla Mohr and husband Rick of Carson, IA, Kelly Pilling and wife Amy of Macedonia, IA, and Tammy Boruff Stradling of Oakland, IA; her grandchildren: Chaz (Shyennah) Cleaveland, Cade (Breezy) Cleaveland, Lexi (Dallas) Dietz, Caroline Pilling, Jacqueline Pilling, Denny Pilling, Breanna Pilling, Lanie Pilling, Tori Pilling, Tre' (Norma) Boruff, Breanna Anderson, Ryan Hector, Ben Hector, Madison Hector, Lilly Hector, Jake (Jenny) Mohr, Chris (Shanna) Mohr and Drew (Shawnee) Mohr; great grandchildren: Gianna, Kayce, William, Leonora, Avery, Haydee, Lily, Blade, Eli, Lucy, Alex, Presley, Mason, Rylee, and baby Dietz on the way; siblings: Wayne Slusher and wife Jan, and Sandi Sowers; sister-in-law Sharon Fender; and brother-in-law Tim Boruff and wife Grace. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Carson Community Building. A memorial visitation, with the family, will follow the prayer service until 5:00 PM. Food will be provided by Minden Smokehouse. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
