Joseph Feigenbutz, the son of Anton and Marie Elizabeth (Strauss) Feigenbutz, was born December 20, 1922 on a farm near Oakland, IA. He died December 23, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA at the age of 94 years and 3 days.
Joseph graduated from Minden High School in Minden, IA in 1941. After graduating, he farmed with his father. During this time, he also served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves between 1948 and 1953. On May 1,1954, he was united in marriage to Veronica Catherine (Nebel) at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. Three children were born to this union: Mary Kay, Janet, and Patti. They lived on a farm near Avoca, IA and in 1972 purchased a farm near Elliott, IA, where he resided until the time of his death.
Through the years, along with farming, he also sold seed corn and did custom farming/combining. He enjoyed working on machinery and the many people he met while doing custom work. He served on the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Board and Iowa State Extension Council. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, Knights of Columbus in Red Oak, the Griswold American Legion, and the Iowa Farm Bureau. Joseph enjoyed farming, reading, visiting, and spending time with his family.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; brother Melvin; brothers-in-law: Perry Beedle, Louis Batenhorst, Fred Klein, Robert Vana, Harold Heithoff, and Ray Finken; and sisters-in-law, Mary Emily Batenhorst and Teresa Heithoff.
He is survived by his wife Veronica of Elliott, IA; his daughters Mary Kay Overbay and husband David of Omaha, NE, Janet Feigenbutz of Elliott, IA, and Pattie Feigenbutz of Elliott, IA; sister Hilda Beedle of Oakland, IA; sisters-in-law: Ruth Feigenbutz of Oakland, IA, Dorothy Klein of Blair, NE, Helen Vana of Omaha, NE, Florence Finken of Earling, IA, and Mary Jane Nebel of Cedar Rapids, NE; brothers-in-law: John Nebel of Ida Grove, IA, Joe Nebel of Omaha, NE, Jim Nebel of Omaha, NE, Jerry Nebel of Cedar Rapids, NE; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold followed by visitation with the family until 7:30 PM. Interment will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
