Joe Edward Potter, son of Duane and Cora (Bates) Potter, was born in Marshall, MN April 4, 1949. He died on January 10, 2022 at his home in Carson, IA at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 6 days.

Joe spent his youth in Council Bluffs, graduating from Lewis Central High School. He spent his summers in Webster and Waubay, South Dakota with his grandparents, Lou and Emma Bates. After graduation Joe joined the Marine Corp and did three tours in Vietnam.

On January 17, 1970, Joe and Lilia Gross married in Council Bluffs. To this union three children were born, Joe Jr., Shane and Amy. They moved to Carson, IA in 1990. Joe enjoyed his family and he had a special interest in RC airplanes.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Lilia; his parents; his infant son, Joe Jr. and his grandson, Ty Potter.

Joe is survived by his son, Shane of Richardson, TX and his daughter, Amy Long of Shelby, IA; his grandchildren: Talia Potter of Council Bluffs, IA, Cole Potter of Oakland, IA, Lane Long of Grimes, IA, Paige Long of Shelby, IA; his great grandchildren: Steven, Lexi, Braelynn, Quinn, Waylon and Raelynn Nicole.
