Jewell Y. Riedemann, 89, of the rural Lyman, IA area died Sunday January 30, 2011, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA.

Jewell Yvonne Smith was born at Eureka Springs, AR on March 1, 1921. She began working at the age of 13 cleaning houses for people while finishing her schooling, graduating from High School. She enlisted in the U. S. Army - WAC during World War II and spent time in Normandy, England and Central Europe. Following her Honorable Discharge on December 4, 1945 she came to Griswold where her mother lived. Jewell married Louis Virgil Riedemann at the Riedemann family farm on January 4, 1947. They lived in Griswold for a short time and then moved back to the farm where she has made her home since. Jewell was a member of the Atlantic Gospel Chapel.

Surviving are her children: Ronald (Linda) Riedemann of Atlantic, IA, Elaine Riedemann of Griswold, Gayle Anderson of Arlington, TX and David (Christine) Riedemann of Griswold. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Daniel (Brandi) Anderson and their daughter Kaylee of Charles City, IA; Sara (Eric) McRory and their children Ethan, Josie and Johnna of Decatur, TX; Laura Anderson of Arlington, TX; Michelle (Todd) Nurnburg and daughters Grace and Molly of Blue Springs, MO; and Matthew Riedemann of Oakland, IA and his daughter Chloe of Dubuque, IA. Jewell's brother Jack (Dorothy) Riedemann of Jewell, IA, also survives.

Preceding Jewell in death were her parents and her husband Louis on June 4, 2003.

Private graveside services will be held at Weirich Cemetery southeast of Lyman on Thursday, February 3, 2011. Open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold Wednesday after 3:00 PM and Thursday morning until 11:00 AM. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with their arrangements.
