Obituary

Jerry Kenneth Rice, the son of Harry Kenneth and Nancy Arlene (Hair) Rice, was born March 20, 1943 in Fontanelle, IA and died August 1, 2015 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, IA at the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 12 days.


Jerry attended school in Fontanelle and Des Moines, graduating from North High School in Des Moines. On February 4, 1967 he was united in marriage to Irene Emily Judd in Atlantic. They lived in Atlantic, where Jerry worked as a commercial painter and then as a maintenance man for the local nursing homes. Irene died January 5, 2011. After Irene's death, Jerry moved to Griswold. On October 20, 2014 he moved to the Griswold Care Center.


Jerry enjoyed drawing, painting pictures, gardening, and working in the yard.


Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Irene; his parents; and his brother Joe.


He is survived by his son Alan Kenneth Rice of Griswold; his brothers and sisters: Audrey Chamberlain, Ardith Erickson, Jim Rice, John Rice, Don Everhart, and Amy Williams. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2:30 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold.  Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM.  Interment will be at the Flint Cemetery.  Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
