Obituary

Jennie Amelia Bishop was born on July 4, 1930 on a farm near Elliott, IA, the daughter of John Edward "Bird" and Ruth Elizabeth (Olmsted) Bishop. She was named after her two grandmothers and when she was a young girl and her father combined the names. Jenelia graduated from Elliott High School in 1947 and on January 16, 1948 married Basil Dean Copenhaver. To this union were born Marion Basil, Colleen Marie, Lela Joanne and Claudia Lee. Together they operated the Oliver dealership and the Phillips 66 Station in Griswold. After their divorce, Jenelia worked for Burke Bros. Construction, Muller Elevator, was a hostess at Dusty's, and after serving for 13 years as the librarian for the Griswold Public Library, retired in 2000. Jenelia was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and taught Bible School for several years while her children were growing up. She was also a former member of Chapter GL - PEO Sisterhood, the Federated Club, the Book Club, Red Hat Ladies and Bridge Club. She enjoyed playing cards around the kitchen table with the "girls" and going to stock-car races and watching #38 – Brad Bergren. She was proud of being the owner of a "Century Farm".

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mabel Marie Bishop, her son Marion and her former husband Basil.

Survivors include her daughters: Colleen (Terry) Hoye of Ooltewah, TN, Lela (significant other - Jeff Carlson) Bergren of Griswold, and Claudia Mullen of Atlantic, IA; her grandsons, Jeff (Laura) Hoye, Jon Hoye, Brad (fiancée Britni) Bergren, Aaron Bergren, Ryan Mullen, and Jordan Mullen, and her granddaughter, Marti Jo Miller. Also surviving is her son-in-law Steve Bergren of Red Oak, IA and her daughter-in-law Sondra Copenhaver of Urbandale, IA.

Memorial services will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold, Saturday March 24, 2012 at 4:00 PM. Following the memorial service, all who are in attendance are invited to a dinner and visitation at the Elliott Community Building. As per Jenelia's wishes, private family committal will be at sun-down at the Bishop family lot in Pilot Grove Cemetery, rural Elliott.
