Obituary

James Ramsey, 64, of Grant, IA, died late Monday evening, June 15, 2009 at his home in Grant.

James William Ramsey was born on August 7, 1944 at Leon, IA, the son of Everett Cleveland and Ada (Bergren) Ramsey. He attended school in Griswold and on January 24, 1961 married Connie Kay Sexton at Newton, IA. Jim drove over the road truck, worked for the International Harvester and John Deere dealers in Red Oak and then in 1967 went to work for Union Carbide in Red Oak. He retired from there after 20 years of service. Jim and Connie moved to their current home on the south side of Grant in 1969. They had a band – "Connie Kay and the Rancheros" and they played all over Iowa and even went to Nashville to play. Jim loved horses and enjoyed raising them and still had quarter horses he enjoyed racing. About two months ago, he was diagnosed with cancer and died late Monday evening, June 15, 2009 at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 8 days, with his wife of 48 years at his side. His father and brother Robert had preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Connie, his mother Ada Bergren of Red Oak, his brother Junior Ramsey and his wife Eleanor of Red Oak, his niece Terri Zenor and her husband Craig of Underwood, IA and their children Jeremy and Kelsey, his nephew Curt Ramsey of Plainville, NE and his grandson Richard Palasky of Red Oak.

His father and brother Robert preceded Jim in death.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 1:30 PM at the Griswold United Methodist Church, Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Wednesday evening.
