Obituary

James Edward "Jim" Gustin, the son of John Archer and Anna Marie (Wall) Gustin, was born December 31, 1948 in Atlantic, IA and died October 16, 2014 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA at the age of 65 years, 9 months, and 16 days.


Jim grew up in the rural Griswold area, and graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1967. He attended and graduated auto mechanic school in Creston and was then employed in Shenandoah. He was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1969. He served during the Vietnam War before being discharged in September of 1970. Jim returned to the Griswold area in the fall of 1979 and started working at Joyce Brothers in Red Oak before becoming the manager of Joyce Brothers Auto Supply in Griswold. On January 1, 1986 Jim purchased the store in Griswold. He actively ran the store until he sold it in March of 2011. Most recently he had worked for Car Quest in Griswold.


Jim was an active participant at the Grant United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of Cass Lodge #412 A.F & A.M., the Optimist Club, and the Grant Legion. Jim had enjoyed golfing and had even owned a race car.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Matthew, and his brothers-in-law, Galen and Chuck.


He is survived by his brothers and sisters: John W. Gustin and wife Anamary of Red Oak, IA, David Gustin and wife Barb of Rockton, IL, Lois Shafer of Stanton, IA, Mary Crees of Corning, IA, and Leota Meyer of Red Oak, IA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral servicse for Jim will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Grant United Methodist Church in Grant. A masonic service will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday evening at 5:30 PM. The masonic service will be followed by visitation with the family until 7:30 PM. Interment will be held at Pleasant Township Cemetery at a later date. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
