James Craig Johnson, age 46, died unexpectedly in his Kansas City, MO home on Friday August 17
th
, 2018. He was the son of Patricia (Cooney) and Dennis Johnson, born at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on June 7th, 1972. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1990. He then went onto the United States Navy from 1990-1992. He was attending Kansas City Kansas Community College and in the Paramedic to RN Bridge program at the time of his death.
Jim was the father to three children, Rya (Johnson) Ramsey of Linwood NC, Jordan Johnson of Davenport IA, and Chandler Johnson of Davenport IA. Jim was currently engaged to Paula Hinchey. Jim was also a new grandfather to Jameson who was born on July 12, 2018.
Jim's medical background started as a CNA at the Griswold Care Center. He was also a volunteer EMT with the Griswold Fire Department. After attending the University of Iowa in 1996, Jim obtained his license from the Paramedic Education Program and began a lifelong career in Emergency Services. During Jim's professional career he worked at Siouxland Paramedics, LifeNet Nebraska, LifeFlight Eagle Air Ambulance, Creighton University, Kansas City Fire Department, Research Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
Whether it was hiking in the mountains, riding his bike, playing 18-holes of golf or relaxing on the beach, Jim was most happy being outdoors and living an active lifestyle. He enjoyed drinking craft beer, visiting wineries and loved to travel.
He is survived by his fiance Paula Hinchey; his children: Rya (David) Ramsey, Jordan Johnson, and Chandler Johnson; his grandson Jameson; his mother Patricia Johnson; his brothers Jeff Johnson, Michael Johnson and wife Nancy; sister Pamela Casey and husband Trent; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Dennis; grandparents Jared and Pearl (Parker) Johnson and Leonard and Paulene (O'Riley) Cooney.
A celebration of life will be held at the Griswold Community Building on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 1:30 PM until 4:00 PM with a small prayer service at 2:00pm. Refreshments will be provided. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with the arrangements.
