Obituary

Jack D. Allen, the oldest of three children of Harry Neuton Allen and Anna Blanche (Peck) Allen, was born east of Oakland, IA on November 2, 1923. Jack died February 9, 2013 at Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 7 days.

Jack grew up in the Carson and Avoca area and graduated from Avoca High School with the class of 1941. Jack and Donetta were married on the Ketchum farm north of Carson, IA on August 30th, 1944. They made their home on a family farm north of Avoca before moving to Carson. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Larry D., Linda Marie, and Randy E. In 1960, Jack and Donetta purchased the Allis Chalmers Dealership, where they established their business Allen Implement. In 1966, Jack and Donetta built a new home in Carson and in the late 1970's they developed the Allen Addition in Carson. Later, Jack began an excavating business and painting business.

Jack was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church. Jack had been on the Carson City Council, Carson School Board, Farm Service Co-Op Board in Harlan, and an Ambassador of Aksarben in Omaha. Jack enjoyed many hobbies including his family and many summer vacations at Lake Okoboji.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Donetta on January 5, 2008, his parents, his brother Niel and his brother-in-law Richard Olson.

Jack is survived by his children: Randy E. Allen and wife AnnaMaren, Larry D. Allen and wife Janel, and Linda Marie Johnson, all of Carson; his sister Marjorie Olson of Underwood, IA; his sister-in-law Lela Cohn and husband Ed of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Carson United Methodist Church. An open visitation will be at the Carson United Methodist Church on Monday, February 11, 2013 starting at noon. Visitation with the family will be at the Carson United Methodist Church from 5-7:30 PM. Interment will be at the Carson Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
