Irene Rice, 72, of Atlantic, IA, died Wednesday January 5, 2011 at Bergan- Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Irene Emily Judd was born in Atlantic on February 26, 1938, the daughter of Kenneth Maxwell and Lela Anita (Weatherby) Judd. She started school in Atlantic and the family moved to Perry, IA for 2 years and then moved to Perryville, MO where she graduated from high school in 1957. Following her graduation, she moved back to Atlantic where she worked at the Atlantic Hospital at 5th and Oak for several years. On February 4, 1967 she married Jerry Kenneth Rice in Atlantic. To this union one son, Alan was born. She was a homemaker, wife and mother and enjoyed reading, had several collections of different items, had hobbies including beadwork and trying her hand at crocheting and she enjoyed traveling.

Her husband Jerry and son Alan both of Atlantic survive Mrs. Rice. Also surviving are her mother Lela Judd of Des Moines, her sister Ruth Nelson of West Des Moines, her brother Ken (Marilyn) Judd of Monticello, AR, and her aunt Alene Bea Sherman of Atlantic as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Irene's father, Kenneth Judd preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rice will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be in the Flint Cemetery west of Griswold. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:30 to 7:30 Friday evening.
