Hilmer Eugene Mathis, son of Emery and Vera (Thornton) Mathis was born in Pottawattamie county on August 7, 1928. He died on April, 30, 2019 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Hilmer attended school in Elliott, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1946. He married Gayle Glennalee Evans on April 30, 1950, to this union their son, Reed was born.

Hilmer worked as an electrician in the Griswold area for 48 years. He enjoyed bowling, collecting antique toy tractors and loved being with family.

Hilmer is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Glennalee in February 2004; his son, Reed in July 1980; his granddaughter, Cheri Lynn in 1969; his parents; his sister-in-law Ruth Mathis; and his father and mother in-law.

Hilmer is survived by his daughter-in -law, Pam Hall and husband Pat; his granddaughter, Debbie Marshall and husband Darin; his great-grandchildren: Ty, Kody and Mattea Marshall; his granddaughter, Robin (Ryan) Reese; his grandson, Tony Hall; his great-grandchildren: Lincoln Reese and Abbigail Hall; and his brother Cleo Mathis.

Memorial Service will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Rieken Duhn Funeral Home at 10:00 AM. A Visitation with the Family will be one hour prior to the service. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
