Obituary

Josephine Hilda Beedle, of Oakland,IA, was born September 20, 1927, on a farm near Minden, IA, the daughter of Anton and Maria Elizabeth (Strauss)Feigenbutz. She died May 25, 2017, at Brookstone Meadows Plaza in Elk Horn, NE, at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 5 days.

Hilda graduated from Minden High School. After graduating, she worked for Union Pacific for several years. On January 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Perry Henry Beedle, JR at the Catholic Parsonage in Avoca. They lived on a farm north of Avoca before purchasing a farm near Oakland. Hilda worked for the ASCS office in Oakland before attending school to become a LPN. She worked at Oakland Manor in Oakland as an LPN before retiring. Hilda and Perry moved in to Oakland in 1984.


Hilda was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Federated Club, Monday We Meet Club, Friday Facts and Fun Club, and the Mother's Club. She had been a 4-H leader and had been recently inducted into the 4-H State Hall of Fame and made an honorary East Pottawattamie 4-H Member.   Hilda was an excellent seamstress and baker. She enjoyed making crafts, greeting cards, and attending as many Riverside school activities as she could. Hilda liked to travel and spent several winters in California. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.


Hilda is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brothers, Joseph and Melvin.


She is survived by her children: Gloria Elliott and husband Richard of Sun City West, AZ, Perry H. "Bud" Beedle and wife Marsha of Oakland, IA, Linda Jensen and husband Claude of Bennet, NE, and Mark Beedle and wife Susan of Oakland, IA; her grandchildren: Jon (April) Elliott, Ben (Melissa) Elliott, Perry (Trish) Beedle IV, Jodi (David) Gute, Lindsay (Todd) Bentley, Clark (Dana) Jensen, Christy (Ryan) Rosensteel, Carrie (Jason) Budd, Nicholas (Caitlin) Beedle, Jayme (Dan) Beedle; eighteen great grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Veronica Feigenbutz and Ruth Feigenbutz.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to East Pottawattamie County 4-H or the Cancer Society. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
