Obituary

Helen Hundt Humbert Hackett of Carson, Iowa. Daughter of Arthur W. Hundt and Clara Hartwig Hundt was born July 29, 1921, in rural Oakland, Iowa and lived in the Oakland, Carson area most of her life. She died in her home in Carson September 2, 2023, at the age of 102 years, 1 month, 4 days.

Helen graduated from Oakland High School in 1939, attended night school at Boyles college in Council Bluffs in the fall of 1940.  She graduated from the Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1944.  She served in the US Army Cadet Nurses Corps during World War II.  She was among the first class to start that type of training. She served at Schick General Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. She later worked as a registered nurse at the Jennie Edmunson Hospital in Council Bluffs, and for several doctors in Oakland, Iowa. She gave many hours of volunteer service to the Red Cross, Cancer Society, and other needy causes.

Helen was a member of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Oakland where she shared her time and talents in the Women's Following, on church boards and teaching Sunday School. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were small.

Helen was preceded in death by an infant sister, Vera; her brother Harold Hundt, of Hancock, Iowa; her sisters: Lucille McCarl, Ruth Higgins, both of Council Bluffs, and Beulah Brockman of Carson; her parents; her first husband, George Humbert in 1979, and her second husband Robert W. Hackett Sr. in 1996.

Survivors include her sons: Dr. Lewis Humbert and wife Jolene of West Bountiful, Utah and Larry Humbert of Carson, Iowa; her four grandchildren: Jennifer Miskin and husband Troy of Driggs, Idaho, Lisa Bowles and husband Blake of West Valley City, Utah, Dr. Ryan Humbert and wife Melissa of Nampa, Idaho, and Dr. Marc Humbert of West Bountiful, Utah; great grandchildren: Avery, Karter, Hudson and Boston Miskin, Siena, Jackson, Levi and Cole Humbert, Liam Humbert; other relatives, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Personal Note: Helen loved to work in her yard, read, sew, knit, crochet and word with anything creative. She collected thimbles and received many of them from family members and friends.

Additional survivors from extended family by marriage, granddaughters: Brenda Hackett and sisters Shelly and Lori.
