Hazel Bertha Henningsen

Hazel Bertha Henningsen, the daughter of Jerry and Nora (Linkletter) Glissmann, was born July 23, 1920 at Walnut, IA and died August 14, 2012 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA at the age of 92 years and 22 days.

Hazel attended school at Walnut through the tenth grade and then graduated from Lewis High School with the class of 1937. On December 14, 1938 she was united in marriage to Wilbert Henningsen at the parsonage in Walnut. They lived in several different places before purchasing the family farm East of Oakland. They moved to Walnut in 1975. Hazel lived in Walnut until the time of her death.

Hazel was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, dancing, playing cards and traveling. She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wilbert; her parents; her sisters Ethel Wood and husband Eugene and Jeraldine Karstens; and her brother-in-law Clifford Beckendorf.

She is survived by her son Daryl and wife Rita of Oakland; her grandsons Kirk of Griswold and Breck and wife Robin of Walnut; her great grandsons: Austin, Travis, Joel; her step great grandsons: Dusty, Dakota, and Dane; her sister Dorothy Beckendorf; and her brother-in-law Vernon Karstens. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut. There will be an open visitation at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Friday. The family will not be present at any specific time. If you would like to see Daryl and Rita, you may stop by their house to visit. Interment will be at the Walnut Cemetery at Walnut. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
