Obituary

Grace Wohlenhaus, 99, of Atlantic, IA, formerly of Grant, IA, died Monday morning, November 1, 2010, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

Grace Marie Miller was born near Mt. Etna in Adams County Iowa on July 2, 1911, the daughter of Clyde and Florence (Maeder) Miller. She attended rural schools and graduated from Cumberland High School and following her graduation, taught in a country school near Cumberland. On March 2, 1939, she married Lloyd Newell Wohlenhaus at Lewis, IA. They lived east of Griswold for a time before moving to Grant where Lloyd was employed by the International dealership in Grant. In 1950 they purchased the grocery store in Grant and on December 31, 1952, Lloyd died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Grace continued in the store until 1996 when it closed. Grace was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church and a former member of the Grant Garden Club.

Survivors include her daughter Joanne Towne of Carl Junction, MO; her son Stanley Wohlenhaus and his wife Paulette of Webb City, MO; her 11 grandchildren, her 23 great- grandchildren, and her great-great grandson. Also surviving are her brother-in-law and his wife, Junior and Lenora Wohlenhaus of Atlantic, IA.

Her parents, husband, four brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded Grace in death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Burial will be at the Grant Cemetery at Grant. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home Wednesday and the family will be present at 1:30 prior to the funeral. A memorial fund has been established and memorials are suggested to either Ozark Christian College or Heritage House.
