Goldie Lemar, 92 of Griswold, IA, died Monday evening, January 11, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA.
Goldie Faye Lynch was born near Allendale, MO, on March 6, 1917, the daughter of Harve Leroy and Frances Rebecca (Scott) Lynch. She attended rural schools and following her formal schooling, she worked on the farm. On March 4, 1937, she married Clarice Vern Lemar in the ministers home in Bethany, MO. They moved to a farm near Martinsville, MO and farmed. Clarice died on April 9, 1978 and Goldie continued living there for a couple of years until she and her dog Blondie moved to Griswold to be near her brother Ivan and his family. While on the farm, Goldie helped with 4-H and entered many items in the Harrison County Missouri County Fair, was a member of the Garden Club and enjoyed all of her nieces and nephews visiting the farm where they could fish in the pond and enjoy the things Goldie enjoyed. Goldie loved to cook and had several books of recipes, most of which she had tried and rated. After moving to Griswold, she would listen to the Bethany Radio Station and copy recipes and, if she missed an ingredient, she would call them to get it so her recipe would be complete. Goldie enjoyed doing arts and crafts and many of her paintings hung in her home. She loved her flowers and always had many planted around her home. Goldie enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to laugh and smile. She had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in her youth being baptized and in Griswold, was a member of the Central Church of Christ. Mondays were set aside for her "Card Party Ladies." Failing health forced her to become a resident of the Griswold Care Center on November 16, 2009.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Kenneth Lee, daughter Faye, twin daughters in infancy and brothers, sisters and in-laws, Carter and Roberta Lynch; Clyde Lynch; Walter and Helen Lynch; Floyd Lynch; Paul and Phyllis Lynch; Clifford Lynch; Melvin Lynch, Luceal and Emmett Findley, Mable and Joe Luttrell and Max Pottorff. Also 5 nieces and nephews preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son Lester (Dorla) Lemar of Columbus Junction, IA, her granddaughters Cindy (Mike) Burroughs of Columbus Jct., Lezlie Lemar of Columbus Jct., and Tonya (David) Whitehair of Dayton, OH, her 3 great grandchildren, her great great grandson, her brother Ivan (Nancy) Lynch of Griswold, her sister Ellen Pottorff of Cameron, MO and her sister-in-law Evelyn Lynch if Buffalo, NY. All of Goldie's 25 surviving nieces and nephews were very special to her but in her later years, she really enjoyed watching Ivan's daughters grow from children into adulthood and seeing them raise their families. They are Lisa (Kevin) Page and children Taylor and Jordan of Urbandale, IA, and Amy (Dennis) Eastin and daughter Emma of Bethany, MO.
