Glenn Taylor, 65, lifetime resident of Grant, IA, died Monday afternoon, April 19, 2010, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
Glenn Allen Taylor was born at Villisca, IA, on January 30, 1945, the son of Gerald and Lola (Schuler) Taylor. Glenn was part of the last class that attended school in Grant thru the 8th grade and he then graduated from Griswold High School in 1963. He attended a Body and Fender Trade School in Omaha, served in the Iowa Army National Guard and helped his father farm following high school. On April 9, 1972, he married Janet Glee Culbertson Ireland at Grant. They farmed until 1986 when Glenn went to work for Steinbeck and Sons where he worked for 23 years. Glenn was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church, the Grant Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for several years, the Grant First Responders, a former member of the Grant Slow-pitch Softball Team and was currently the township clerk for the Douglas Township Trustees and overseer of the Grant and Morton Mills cemeteries.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Donna Pelzer and Twila McGann, and his nephew Jerry Pelzer.
Survivors include his wife Janet of Grant, his daughters Brenda (Marty) Haas of Mapleton, IA and Melissa (Carey) Johnson of Oakland, IA, his son Jedd (Regan) Taylor of Bellevue, NE and his grandchildren Macy and Ashlynn Whiley, Ean, Ellen, and Cora Grace Johnson, Carson Taylor and Matthew, Steven and Brian Haas. Also surviving are his brother Clyde Taylor of Venice, FL, 11 nieces and nephews, several grand nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law Stanley Pelzer of Griswold, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Floyd and Royce Tornblom of Council Bluffs, IA and his last living uncle, Wayne Taylor of Sun City West, AZ, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Grant United Methodist Church, Pastor Gerald Wiser officiating. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold until noon on Wednesday and then at the Griswold Community Building for the remaining of the day and the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Following the funeral, cremation will take place and burial of cremains will be in the Grant Cemetery at a later date.
