Glenn A. Lilja, 87, of Atlantic, IA, died Wednesday evening, January 18, 2012 at the Heritage House in Atlantic where he had been a resident for the last 4 years. Glenn was born at Brighton, CO on August 9, 1924, the son of Rudolph Axel and Hilma Teresia (Peterson) Lilja. He graduated from High School and was married. He farmed until 1958 and ten started a construction business – building many homes in the Denver, CO suburb area. He retired in 1986 and he and his wife Shirley moved to Atlantic, IA. They returned to Colorado in 1989 and Shirley died in 2001. Glenn returned to Atlantic and entered Heritage House in 2009. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his only brother.
Surviving Glenn's passing are his daughters Carol (Dan) Amos of Lewis, IA and Connie Hoagland of Littleton, CO. Also surviving are his six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; Lori (Ben) Waldron of Shenandoah, IA, Kari (Danny) Hackney of England, Michelle Hoagland of Englewood, CO, Naomi (Josh)Garcia and their daughters Elizabeth and Alexandria of Englewood, Jeremiah (Catherine) Hoagland of Denver and Nathan Hoagland of Denver; and his two sisters – Hilda Frost of Foxfield, CO and Connie Lawson of Centennial, CO.
No local services are planned. Funeral and burial are planned for Monday in Colorado. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family with the local arrangements.
Lilja is pronounced LIL – YA.
