Obituary

Glendale Edna Armstrong, the daughter of Ray and Della (Hamlin) Grennell, was born March 25, 1919 on a farm east of Griswold, IA. She died September 12, 2015 at the Allen Place in Atlantic, IA at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 18 days.


In 1923, Glendale's family moved from the farm into Griswold. She graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1936. On January 29, 1941 she was united in marriage to Gail Armstrong. They moved onto a farm west of Lewis, where they lived for 48 years. In 1989, Glendale and Gail moved from the farm into Atlantic. Gail died November 11, 2003. Glendale remained in Atlantic until the time of her death.


Glendale was a charter member of the Happy Go Lucky Club.


She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Lloyd Grennell.


Survivors include her sons Robert Armstrong and his wife Mary of Atlantic and John Armstrong and his wife Christine of Omaha, NE; her daughters Lois Welliver and her husband Don of Riverside, MO and Alice Frechette and her husband Steve of St. Cloud, MN; her seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends survive her.


Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold. Interment will be held at the Whipple Cemetery. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Visitation with the family will follow the Rosary until 7:30 PM. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
