Obituary

Gilbert Frank Krisinger, the son of Fred Frank and Rowena Mary (Wilson) Krisinger, was born February 27, 1933 at the Griswold Hotel, in Griswold, IA and died October 2, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 5 days.

Gib attended school at Griswold, graduating with the class of 1950. While in school, he played trumpet and valve trombone in the band, and was the president of the high school band his senior year. He also sang in the boy's quartet, the choir, played basketball and baseball, and ran the 100 yard dash in track. Gib helped his father and brother at the family custom feed mill and was a bulldozer operator with Myer's Construction until 1954. Gib enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1951 and served actively from 1954 until 1956, when he was discharged back into the reserves until 1959. While stationed at Port Hueneme, CA, as a physician's assistant, he met Karen Darleen Bradley, who was working as a record's clerk. They were married on April 14, 1956 at the Community Methodist Church, in Karen's home town of Thousand Oaks, CA. They returned to Griswold where they bought a farm west of Griswold in 1958. Gib continued to work at the mill and play for dances. Gib and his brother Stanley eventually bought the feed mill from their father and ran it until 1978 when they sold it.

Gib was always a musician. He was the orchestra leader of his own five piece band before active duty in the Navy, and then again after returning to Griswold. He also played trumpet for six years with the Route 48 Band.

Gib was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #508, the Farm Bureau, and a past member of the Lion's Club. He was a rural postal carrier for several years and is a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier's Association. Gib loved trapping in the winter and enjoyed checking his traps each morning to see what he had caught. He enjoyed hunting with the Griswold Coyote Hunters. He especially liked fishing, whether in the Krisinger Klassic Tournament in Rockaway Beach, MO, with his buddies in Iowa, or on the many camping trips to Missouri, Alaska, California, Michigan, and Canada.

Gib is preceded in death by his mother in 1963 and his father in 1987.

He is survived by his wife Karen of Griswold, IA; his children: Randy Krisinger of Griswold, IA, Sherri Lary and husband Rick of Griswold, and Julie Schmeling and husband Gene of Atlantic, IA; his grandchildren: Kristin and husband SSGT Mark Regan of Fort Lewis, Tacoma, WA, Rob Krisinger of Walnut, IA, Bryce Lary of Atlantic, IA, Tiffany and husband Jeff Wickham of Polk City, IA, and Tom Schmeling and fiancée Sharla Schlake of Ankeny, IA; his great grandchildren: Amber Reagan, William Reagan, Bentley Krisinger, and Ryen Wickham; his brother Stanley Krisinger and wife Marilyn of Griswold, IA; and his sisters, Elaine Gibson and husband Larry of Meridian, ID, and Debra Knop and husband David of Mesa, AZ.
