Geraldine Lee Brown
Geraldine Lee Brown, the daughter of Floyd Lee and Minnie Elsie (Curts) Nicholson, was born February 19, 1928 in Marfrance, WV and died January 11, 2014 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
Geraldine moved to Carson when she was two years old. She attended Carson Schools, graduating with the class of 1946. She married Ivan Carley Tibbles and they lived in the Macedonia area before moving to Kansas in 1966. When Ivan died in 1984, Geraldine moved to Oakland. In 1988, she married Pete Brown. They lived in Henderson before moving to Harmony Court in Council Bluffs. Pete died in 2001. Geraldine continued to live in Council Bluffs until 2009, when she returned to Oakland.
Geraldine enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, flowers, cooking, and sewing. She enjoyed playing the organ and had also taught herself to play the accordion. She had been on the welcoming committee at Harmony Court and was known for her great sense of humor
Geraldine is preceded in death by her husband Ivan in 1984 and her husband Pete Brown in 2001; her parents, her sister Eloise Tupper and her brother Stanley Nicholson.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sheryl Weaver and husband Mike of Oakland, IA; LeRoy Tibbles and wife Ronda of Colby, KS; Kathleen Vernon and husband Roger of Midlothian, TX, Donna Haines and husband Verlin of Oakland, IA, Christine Petersen and husband Bobby of Texas, and Dennis Tibbles and wife Sally of Salina, KS; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one step great grandchild; two step great great grandchildren; and her sister Wilda Bergren and husband Marion of Casa Grande, AZ. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Janaury 15, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland. Interment will be at the Macedonia Cemetery at Macedonia. An open visitation will be held at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland on Monday and Tuesday until noon. Open visitation will be held after 1:00 PM at the Oakland Christian Church in Oakland on Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday at the Oakland Christian Church. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
