Gerald Vinton Wilson, of Oakland, the son of Ralph and Zoe (Williams) Wilson, was born January 8, 1937, in Oakland, IA. He died May 31, 2019, in Des Moines, IA, at the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 23 days.

Gerald attended school in Oakland, graduating from Oakland High School with the class of 1955. After graduating, he worked with his father, farming the family farm. Gerald moved to Oakland in 1974 and began working as a mechanic in Carson. He worked in Carson for several years before opening Wilson's Garage in Oakland. Gerald owned and operated Wilson's Garage until several years ago, when he retired.

Gerald was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. He had his pilot's license and loved flying his plane whenever and wherever he could. Gerald enjoyed flying remote controlled planes and reading anything that had to do with flying. He liked boating, playing cards, fishing, and spending time working in the garage.

Gerald is preceded in death by his son Mark, on March 4, 2012, his parents, his first wife Bette, and his brother Duane.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Oakland, IA; his sons Dan Wilson and wife Kaleigh and Steven Wilson; his step children Dana Rock, Donna Rock, and Diana Rock Fiene and husband Mike; his grandchildren: Cole Wilson and wife Meghan, Quinn Wilson and wife Brooke, Dane Wilson and fiancée Dana, Caitlin Kotz and husband Joseph, and Jordan Wilson and wife Samantha; his step grandchildren: Mallory and Eric Rock, and Harrison, Karsten, and Hanna Fiene, and Ashton Fiene Collier and husband Ashton; his great grandchildren: Lydia and Liam Collier, and Hailey, Caleb, and Piper Wilson; and his sisters Jean Priegel and Beaulavon "Tootie" McGraw.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. A memorial fund has been established in Gerald's name.  Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
