Obituary

Gerald M. "Gerry" Tietz, 67, of Griswold, IA died late Wednesday evening, December 29, 2010 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA.

Gerald Morris Tietz was born at Griswold, IA, on May 3, 1943, the son of Morris Henry and Nina Katherine (Houck) Tietz. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1961. During high school he started working for Lyman Oil Co. on a part-time basis. He also worked for Bud Howell and Pete Leach for a while. On May 11, 1963, he and Marcine Diane Westphalen were married in Bellevue, NE and since then have lived in the Lyman area. They purchased Lyman Oil in 1966 and sold out in 1988. Gerry worked for Snapper in Atlantic and then went to work for Kent Mueller Trucking and worked there for 15 years as a truck dispatcher until his semiretirement in 2004. Gerry was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ.

Gerry's parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcy of Griswold, his children and grandchildren, Denise (Ken) Pullen of Omaha, NE; Tim (Connie) Tietz and children Eric, Kaleb, Joshua and Jessica of New Ulm, MN; and Darin (Kris) Tietz and daughter Shelby of Omaha. Also surviving are Gerry's sisters Jeanne (Ernie) Knight of Starbuck, MN, Shirley (Darwin) Mueller of Hustisford, WI and Karen (Mike) Laverty of Lewis, IA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at 10:30 AM at St. John's United Church of Christ south of Lyman, Pastor Celeste Waymire officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will be present from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Monday evening.
