Lorraine Porter, 86, of Griswold, IA, died Tuesday evening, November 18, 2008, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Greta Lorraine Tye was born in Wright Township, Pottawattamie County, rural Griswold on March 13, 1922, the daughter of Maynard LeRoy and Greta Cecilia (Smith) Tye. She attended rural schools and graduated from Griswold High School in 1940. On July 2, 1942, she married Hugh Charles Porter at Maryville, MO. When Hugh went into the Navy, Lorraine worked for AAA Office in Atlantic. When Hugh returned from the war, they lived in Lewis for one year and then farmed around the Griswold area for the next 40 years. In the 1980's, Lorraine worked at the Sew Easy store in Griswold. They retired to town in 1987. Following Hugh's death on September 17, 2002, she continued to live in her home until now. Lorraine loved her family, her friends, her church, going out to coffee and her home. She created many fond memories for her family and friends.

Survivors include her son Harry of Griswold; her granddaughters, Kyla Amos and her husband Mike and children Clay and Jocelyn of Griswold, Sarah Ewing and her husband Cody and children Naudia and Tyson of Griswold, and Laura Porter and her partner Nathan Winston of Atlantic, IA; and her brothers Leroy Tye and his wife Sandy and Byron Tye and his wife Lovella both of Griswold.

Preceding Lorraine in death were her parents, her husband, her son Richard, her daughter-in-law Kathy Porter, and her sisters, Vera Jean Myers and Donna Dunn.

Funeral services will be on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the
Griswold United Methodist Church, Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis. Open visitation will be at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold and the family will not be there at any given time.
