Elva Joy (Brandes) Haas, daughter of Raymond L. and Florence H. (Knott) Brandes, was born May 16, 1918 on a farm near Hancock, Iowa. She died March 7, 2016 at Longview Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa, at the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

Elva Joy and Gerald O. Haas were married in September 1940 and lived in Griswold, Iowa throughout their 55 years of marriage. She enjoyed many hobbies and activities as long as her health permitted. Joy particularly loved music and singing and continued to sing often. She moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 2002 and to Missouri Valley in 2014. Elva Joy was a long time member of Griswold United Methodist Church and while in Council Bluffs was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; brothers: Raymond, his wife Donna; and Wayne Brandes; sister Shirley Kindhart; and son-in-law Chuck Glinn.

She is survived by daughters: Carol Haas of Omaha, NE; Colleen Haas Glinn Elge and husband, Ron, of Aurora, NE; sister-in-law Maxine Brandes of Walnut, IA; grandchildren and spouses: Kurt Glinn (Carol), Kathy Parks (Jason), and Kris Wilson (Rod); great grandchildren Jared and Kate Glinn, Jake and Joe Parks, and Trent and Derek Wilson and beloved nieces and nephews; extended family members, many friends and special caregivers.
