Elaine Hildebrand's Obituary
Elaine Hildebrand, the daughter of Pearl J. and Stella (Bates) Smith, was born in rural James Township of Pottawattamie County, on September 12, 1924. She died on December 2, 2018, at the Northcrest Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
Elaine went to school in Oakland and graduated with the class of 1943. She received her certificate to teach country school and taught for three years. On March 23, 1946, Virgil and Elaine were married in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union four children were born. In the early 1970's, she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, training at Iowa Western Community College. She worked at the Atlantic Hospital before working at the Oakland Manor for 34 years.
Elaine was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going on trail rides, crocheting, word find puzzles and spending time with her family.
Elaine was preceded in death by her daughter, Jo Ann Hildebrand; her parents; her granddaughter, Jodi Lynn; and eight siblings.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Virgil of Minden, Iowa; her children: Bill and his wife Denise of Atlantic, Iowa, Jan and her husband Dwayne Lockhart of Dysart, Iowa, and Joyce and her husband Gary Beedle of Avoca, Iowa; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Elaine will be Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Hancock United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland, Iowa. Rieken Funeral Home is assisting the family with her arrangements.
