Edris D. Nielsen, the daughter of John and Gertrude Reavis Simm was born February 11, 1926 in Galva, IA. She died July 26, 2016 in Council Bluffs,IA at the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
Edris graduated from Paulina High School in 1944. She then attended Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1947. She married Robert Zimmerman and made a home on the family farm east of Oakland. Four children were born to this union: Becky, Jo, Robert, and Tim. Edris worked part time at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA, the Griswold Care Center, and the Oakland Manor before returning to Atlantic where she started the Home Health Care Program at the Cass County Memorial Hospital. She returned to Oakland Manor and worked there until her retirement. In 1998, Edris was united in marriage to Loren Nielsen. They lived in Council Bluffs. Edris lived in Council Bluffs until the time of her death.
Edris is survived by her daughters, Becky Wetenkamp (special friend Dale Haines) of Plattsmouth, NE, and Jo (Larry) Peters of Council Bluffs, IA; her sons, Robert (Linda) Zimmerman II of Walnut, IA, and Tim (Shelly) Zimmerman of Ponder, TX; grandchildren: Marty (Jeanne) Wetenkamp, Mary Anderson, Jon (Courtney) Kossow, Abby (Derek) Conrad, Ashley (Cody) Elgan, Brandon (Denae) Buffington; 17 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; brother William Simm of Paulina, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Edris was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert Zimmerman and Loren Nielsen; and her brother Darold Simm.
Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at the Oakland Congregational Church in Oakland, IA. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:30 at the Congregational Church in Oakland, IA. Interment will be at the Oak Wood Cemetery in Lewis, IA. A Lunch will follow at the Lewis Community Building in Lewis, IA. Memorials are suggested to the Oakland Congregational Church or the Iowa Western Nursing Program. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
