Edith Annette (Alm) Rabe, the daughter of Carl W. and Alice Media (Johnson) Alm, was born November 9, 1931 on the family farm eight miles north of Stanton, IA and died December 14, 2013 at her home in Griswold, IA at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 5 days.
Edith went to country school through the eighth grade. She moved to Red Oak at the age of 16 and worked at a café, Union Carbide, and then Spurgeons as a bookkeeper for five years. On January 12, 1954 she married Cecil W. Rabe in Stanton, and they moved to a farm five miles east of Griswold. Three children were born to this union: Mick, Peggy, and Vicki. They moved to Griswold in 1976. Edith then began working at the Griswold Care Center, and was a housekeeper, medical aide, and a certified nurse's aide, before retiring in 2001.
Edith had been a member of St. John's Church of Christ, south of Lyman, before becoming a member of the Central Church of Christ in Griswold.
She is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Wayne Rabe; her daughter Peggy Ann Rabe Bock; her parents; and three sisters: Grace Lucus, Viola Johnson, and Anna Allen.
Edith is survived by her son Mick Cecil Rabe of Griswold; her daughter Vicki Sue Sanny and husband Derek of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Stacey Sue Ann Bock and Cody Lee Bock of Atlantic; her great granddaughter Emeliana Bock; three brothers: Carl V. Alm, Leonard Alm, and Darwin Alm; and one sister Lillian Madden. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Edith will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
