Edith Marie Haines

Edith Marie (Hauger) Haines was born on August 23, 1926 to Sarah Rachel (Haines) and Floyd Nelson Hauger on the family farmstead in Silver City, Iowa. She was one of 5 daughters and 4 sons born to this union. She died Friday, April 6, 2012 at Oakland Manor after a two year battle with breast cancer at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 4 days.

In the 8th grade, Edith stayed home to assist in caring for her siblings. Edith was united in marriage to Orville V. Haines on October 9, 1943. They farmed and resided in the Carson and Oakland communities. To this marriage two children were born – Jeraldyne Lea and Terry Lynn.

After raising her two children, she earned her GED and L.P.N. license. Edith worked at the Atlantic Memorial Hospital and then worked for Dr. Charles Pigneri for over 20 years.

Edith and Orville enjoyed square dancing, camping, and gardening. Edith also created many ceramic pieces over the years. Edith belonged to the Oakland United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending her neighborhood club – Our Friday Out.

Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Orville (July 10, 2007) and her parents. Also by her brothers: Earl, Kenneth, Marvin and Robert and her sisters: Doris Shanno and Betty Jane.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeraldyne Perkins and her husband Jerry of Essex, IA; her son Terry Haines and his wife, Cyndy of Oakland, IA; 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters – Viola Sorensen of Council Bluffs, IA and Marjorie Harms of Prague, OK.

The family appreciates the concerns shared during Edith's illness. A special thank you to Oakland Manor and their caring staff and the Asera Care staff, who provided hospice care to Edith over her last days.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Oakland. There will be no visitation or viewing held at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the family, who will direct. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
