Drue William
Kirchhoff
February 14, 1965 – July 1, 2023
Drue William Kirchhoff, the son of Glenn William and Mary Ann (Mundorf) Kirchhoff, was born February 14, 1965, in Council Bluffs, IA. Drue died July 1, 2023, at his home in Griswold, IA while surrounded by family, at the age of 58 years, 4 months, and 17 days.
Drue attended school in Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School in 1983. After graduation, he attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. He then began working for Guss Construction in Casey, IA, for a short time, before taking a job at Hockenstad and Wilson in Griswold as a mechanic. Drue then operated a shop at his home, while farming and baling hay. On February 11, 1995, he was united in marriage to Karen Downey, at the Griswold United Methodist Church. With this marriage came his beloved two daughters. Drue also dabbled in concrete work while partnering with Rick Conry. Drue then purchased a tiling machine with Terry Meek. This purchase was the start of Southwest Iowa Tiling. With this, came many long days and late nights of Drue dedicating his time to repairing water leaks, broken lines, clogged sewers, and many other services. Drue was also excited to recently start offering well repair, maintenance, and replacement. Drue remained active in the business until the time of his death. With the support of his family, the business will continue on for years to come.
Drue was a member of Cass Lodge #412 A.F. & A.M., and the Griswold United Methodist Church. He had served on the Griswold Fire and Ambulance Department. Drue also served on the Griswold Communications Board of Directors for twenty years. Drue's impact on the community could be seen through supporting the local causes, such as 4-H and FFA, providing aid on his air boat during floods, and ensuring his Uncle Wayne's woodworking could be displayed in the local museum. He enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, coyote hunting, and eating wild game at turtle feeds, coyote feeds, and infamous "trash can" parties. Drue cherished spending time with his grandchildren and was overjoyed to meet his first great-grandchild this past Christmas.
Drue is preceded in death by his father; his in-laws Mike, Bobbie, and Irene; and his grandparents.
Left to cherish Drue's memory are his wife Karen, his daughters Carrie (Brad) Jefferson and Chelsey (Aaron) McAdams; his beloved dog: Ruger; grandchildren: Logan (Caitlin), Collin, Averi, Jadynn (Gage), Mason, Essex, Kaylee, and Hayden; great-grandsons: Baylor and Watson; his mother, Mary Ann; brother: Jeffery (Teresa); special nephews: Justin (Joelle) and children and Kyle (Maggie) and children; in-laws: Mary Pat (Ron) Foltz, Mick (Cathy) Downey, Anita (Hank) Pangelina, and Scott (Tonja) Downey; Dan and Josh; and many other special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A masonic service conducted by Cass Lodge #412 A.F. & A.M., will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at the Griswold Community Building. A celebration of life gathering with Drue's family will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM, at the community building, on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Casual dress is requested. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Drue's name. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
