Obituary

Douglas Arthur Carley

On January 7, 1946, Marion and Phyllis Carley welcomed their second son, Douglas Arthur Carley. Doug died on May 3, 2011 at Veterans Hospital in Omaha at the age of 65 years, 3 months, and 26 days.

Growing up, Doug loved to be outside and play sports. In high school, he played football, basketball, and ran track. Doug graduated as part of the Carson-Macedonia High School Class of 1963. After high school, Doug went to University of Nebraska at Omaha and participated in the Military Officers Candidacy. He married Carol Stille on August 27, 1967 in a hometown ceremony. He was drafted but allowed to get his business degree in 1968, before heading to the United States Army, where he moved through the ranks as he was stationed in places like Texas, New York, Japan, and Korea during the Vietnam Conflict. When Doug's tour was over in 1971, he and Carol moved back to Oakland to raise their three sons.

Over the years, Doug was a restaurant part owner as the C in JACS Steakhouse, ran and owned Carley International Tractor Implement, and in later years, Doug also sold insurance. While the boys were growing up, Doug's free time was spent watching their games, concerts, and other activities. In 1983, Doug was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. With family by his side, he overcame paralysis to be back on the sidelines to watch his children, and later, his grandchildren play sports. Doug was most definitely a family man that enjoyed cars, racing, trains and his train collection, watching sports, a good cup of coffee, a piece of pie, and a conversation with friends or family.
