Dorothy May Putnam, the daughter of Lawrence and Laura (Brown) Williams, was born July 28, 1926 in Bridgewater, IA and died March 6, 2014 at her home in Oakland, IA at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 6 days.


Dorothy attended school in Bridgewater and graduated from Bridgewater High School. On December 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Don Putnam at Olathe, KS. They lived and farmed west of Oakland for forty years before moving in to town. Dorothy lived at her home in Oakland until the time of her death.


Dorothy loved living and helping on the farm and had also worked at Oakland Manor. She had enjoyed dancing and riding horses when she was younger. She liked playing bingo and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law, Pam; and her nephew Randy.


She is survived by her husband Don of Oakland; her daughter Lolly Porter and husband Mike of Council Bluffs, IA; her sons Lynn and Rick Putnam, both of Oakland; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and her brother Ed Williams and wife Mary of Bridgewater, IA. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2013 at 1:30 PM, at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation with the family will be at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:30 AM until the time of the services. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
