Dorothy Dean Marsh, the daughter of Ralph Hiatt and Nellie Estell (Neeley) Hillhouse, was born August 27, 1918 in Red Oak, IA and died October 31, 2009 at the Carlise Care Center in Carlisle, IA at the age of 91 years.
Dorothy attended school in Elliott and graduated from Elliott High School with the class of 1936. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for her father at the Community Oil Company in Elliott and Denison. On March 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Max DeWitt Marsh at Maryville, MO. Dorothy continued to work as a bookkeeper while Max served during WWII. Upon Max's return from the military, they made Elliott their lifelong home. Dorothy maintained her home in Elliott until a few years ago when she moved to Indianola. She had only recently moved to Carlisle.
Dorothy was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church. She enjoyed maintaining her yard and flowers, feeding birds, and sharing coffee with friends. She was known for her lively spirit and ready laugh.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Max Gerald in infancy, and Wade George; brothers Bill, Warder, and Junior; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Schumacher and husband Mike of LeClaire, IA, and Janet Pine and husband Doug of Milo, IA; grandchildren, Greg Mundorf, Adlai Griffith, Robin Hall and Tony Hall; seven step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Darrin Kimpson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Following the graveside service, there will be fellowship and refreshments at the Elliott Community Center. Duhn Funeral Home of Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
