Obituary

Dorothy Louise King of Hancock, Iowa was born in San Pedro, CA to Robert and Dorothy Carr on October 11, 1942.  She died February 6, 2017 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 74 years, 3 months, and 22 days.

Dorothy grew up in California. She met Delbert when he was stationed in Long Beach, California, in the Navy. They were married on November 12, 1960 in Lakewood, California. They lived in Carson, California until 1974, when they moved their family to Iowa to take over the family farm. Dorothy and Delbert continued to live on the farm until the time of her death.

Dorothy was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church. Dorothy loved being a farm wife and Delbert was always very proud of his redheaded California girl. Dorothy enjoyed her family very much and loved going to all her grandkids sporting events. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and foster children and making quilts. She loved gardening, camping, and canning. Dorothy and Delbert also took in foster children for 20 years and had over 350 children in total.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Naomi King: and her parents Robert and Dorothy Carr.

She is survived by her husband Delbert of 56 years; her three sons: Robert and his wife Darlene of Bellevue NE, David and his wife Cindy of Onawa, IA, Stephen and his wife Tracy of Omaha, NE: her grandchildren: Rachel Orvis and her husband Dean and their two children Bo and Reagan of Dowagiac, MI, Corey King and his wife Kelly, and their two daughters Luci and Bella of Omaha, NE, Joshua King of Orange, CA, Kyle King and his wife Mary of Omaha, NE, Hannah King of Huntington Beach, CA, Derek King of Omaha, NE, Cody King of Bellevue, NE, Kaitlyn King of Omaha, NE; her sister Carolyn Wilson-Jordan of Chino CA; and her sister-in-law Shirley  Mae Jefferson of Oakland, IA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.

Funerals services will be held on Friday, Febraury 10, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Hancock United Methodist Church.  Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening at the Hancock United Methodist Church from 5-7 PM.  Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock.  Memorials may be given to Botna Bend Park.  Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
