Obituary

Donna Jean Slama, the daughter of Wilfred and Florice (Rodwell) Bates, was born August 9, 1931 at Griswold, IA and died February 16, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 7 days. Donna attended school at Griswold. In 1975, Donna was united in marriage to Daryl "Jack" Slama at Early, IA. They lived West of Griswold where Donna was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and the Legion Auxiliary. Donna lived on the farm until the time of her death. Donna loved anything to do with horses. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and dancing.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Phyllis Kneisel, and brothers, Kenneth, Lyle and Dean E Bates.

She is survived by her husband Jack Slama of Griswold, her children, Mike (Diane) Ashbaugh of Council Bluffs, IA, Kathy (Obert) Heilaman of Henderson, NV, Janeice Jensen of Denver, CO, Pam Binns of Red Oak, IA, and Keith (Jan) Ashbaugh of Fairfax, MO; her sister Nova (Lester) Leighton, her sister-in-law Velma Bates; many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and several Great Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Griswold United Methodist Church on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM. An open visitation will be held at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold on Monday with the family present from 5 to 7 PM. Interment will be at the Griswold Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Church following the services at the cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
