Dickie "Dick" Edward Colvin, the son of Joseph Hale and Elva Arlene (Howlett) Colvin, was born July 16, 1946, in Griswold, IA. He died October 11, 2019, at his home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
Dick lived in Griswold for several years before moving to Oakland. On November 3, 1962, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ellen Hamilton in Rockport, MO. Two children were born to this union, Brian and Shelley. Dick and Barb lived in several different places, including Harlan, Avoca, and Minden, before settling in Oakland. Dick was a jack of all trades and worked at many jobs over the years including delivering milk, carpenter work, mechanic, auto painting, farming, Firestone in Atlantic, IA, and driving a truck. Dick continued to live in Oakland and maintain his own home, until his death.
Dick loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and driving a truck. Dick had been an excellent race car driver and liked racing every chance he got.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife Barbara on October 9, 2011; his parents; and his brothers: Wayne, Robert, Steve, and his brother-in-law Alvin Lytle.
Dick is survived by his children, Brian Colvin of Oakland, IA, and Shelley Colvin and friend Doug of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren: Nick Colvin, Ashlee Colvin, Trae Colvin, Destiny Colvin, and Walter Johnson; his sisters, Bonnie Lytle and friend Darwin Keast and Diane Hamilton and husband Steve; and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Colvin. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. A memorial visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.
