Melvin Dennis "Denny" Dyke
Longcor, the son of Melvin and Bonnie (Putnam) Longcor, was born January 1, 1945 at Alliance, NE and died August 20, 2013 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of 68 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
Denny graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1962. After graduating, Denny farmed, worked for the State of Iowa, was self-employed building fence, and worked for Earl May, before retiring as a security guard at Oakland Foods.
Denny enjoyed playing cards (especially poker), watching westerns and wrestling, hunting, collecting guns and eagles, and bowling. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Melvin, and several other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his children: Linc Smith and his wife Leeah of Albertville, MN, Mike Longcor of Kansas City, MO, Clint Smith and his significant other Deb of Greenfield, MN, Shelly Billbe and husband Arnold of Auburn, KS, Rich Longcor and wife Rhea of Cottage Grove, MN, and Monique Longcor of St. Paul, MN; his mother Bonnie; his brothers, Lonnie Longcor and wife Judy and Gary Longcor and wife Lisa; his sisters: Jolene Stolte and husband Darrell, Joyce Longcor, and Ladonna Longcor; eighteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Denny is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 12:30 PM at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until Noon at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
